Pub-Talk: Public Procurement Research Outcomes | Emma Kallina

October 9 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Public procurement is a key lever for public sector bodies and governments to shape the products and services that are used by public sector agencies, e.g. in education, healthcare, social services, or the justice system. However, this power is not yet sufficiently applied during the procurement of AI systems: recent research shows that authorities often lack an AI-specific procurement process or run into various AI-specific barriers.

Together with two colleagues at the University of Cambridge and in collaboration with AI & Equality, Emma Kallina conducted a research project that aimed at demonstrating the exact levers during public procurement with which public sector bodies can exert their control, as well as current barriers and bottlenecks that might hinder this process.

In this session, Emma will present this research project, its methodology and findings, as well as what our findings mean for different audiences.
